A 12-year-old boy's heroic actions have been recognized with a bravery award, highlighting the importance of quick thinking and courage in unexpected situations. On December 14, Zac, a young resident of Ross-on-Wye, demonstrated remarkable composure and bravery when his mother, Nicola Crump, fainted while driving on a busy road. As Nicola's foot remained on the accelerator, the car's speed increased to nearly 60 mph, posing a significant risk to herself and other drivers. Zac, who was in the passenger seat, took swift action, guiding the car into the central reservation on the A40 near Ross-on-Wye. He then calmly switched off the engine, called 999, and provided the call handler with the precise location of their vehicle. This calm and decisive behavior not only ensured the safety of his mother but also showcased his ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations. The West Mercia Police recognized Zac's exceptional bravery and outstanding courage, presenting him with a Chief Constable's Commendation award. His mother, Nicola, expressed her pride and gratitude for the support and recognition, stating, 'I'm just so proud of him and I'm so appreciative of the effort that everyone has gone through to make such a fuss of Zac.' The award ceremony, held at the force's headquarters in Hindlip, Worcestershire, allowed Zac and his mother to reconnect with the officers who responded to the incident. Zac, reflecting on the event, noted that while he didn't perceive it as a significant achievement, others recognized the bravery and courage displayed in that moment. The Chief Constable, Richard Cooper, emphasized the importance of Zac's actions, stating, 'Zac deserves every bit of recognition that we can give him. The way that he behaved in that moment when his mum really needed him and other road users needed him was absolutely amazing.'
