An incredible story of determination and inspiration! An 84-year-old swimmer from Ipswich, UK, has returned from the Abu Dhabi competition with an impressive medal haul, proving that age is just a number.
Read, also known as the 'King of the Channel', dominated the pool, winning gold in the 5km open water race, and securing victories in the 400m and 200m individual medley, as well as the 800m and 400m freestyle events. But here's where it gets controversial... he also took home silver medals in the 100m and 200m freestyle, showing that he's a force to be reckoned with in multiple disciplines.
The Open Masters Games, a massive sporting event with over 25,000 participants from across the region, witnessed Read's remarkable achievements. With 38 different sports on display, it's safe to say this competition was an athlete's dream.
And this is the part most people miss: Read's journey didn't start in Abu Dhabi. Last year, he dominated the 3km open water swim event at the World Aquatics Masters Championships in Singapore, solidifying his status as a global swimming legend.
