How NFL Playoff Seeding Works:
Seven teams from each conference advance to the playoffs. The four division winners are seeded 1-4, based on their record. The three remaining teams with the best records become wild-card teams, seeded 5-7. A wild-card team can't get a higher seed than a division winner, even if they have a better record. The top seed in each conference gets a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
But here's where it gets controversial... The current seeding means that some teams with strong records could be forced to play on the road, while others with weaker records get a home game.
